From Desperation to Divine Redirection: How to Trust God When Your Plans Fall Apart

Sometimes the “secure” path isn’t the right one. We know this firsthand.

A few years ago, we were standing on the edge of what felt like a major breakthrough:

- Our first home was almost within reach

- A new baby was on the way

- A bonus check was coming
- Everything looked like it was lining up

And then it all unraveled. The job was gone. The paycheck—gone.

The dream? Slipped through our fingers.

We were broke. Uninsured. And desperately needing a plan B.

Then came a door: a job offer with salary, benefits, and a sense of stability.

Everyone told us to take it. But here’s what changed everything…

The 9-Word Prayer That Guided Our Decision

Before making any decision, we prayed something we’ve prayed for years:

“God, close every door that isn’t for us.”

We call this posture: Green Light Until It’s Red.

It means we take the step, knock on the door, and trust that if it’s not God—it won’t stay open.

And in that moment, God made it clear: this wasn’t our door.

Turning it down felt terrifying. But it became the pivot point for divine redirection.

Instead of settling, we surrendered. Instead of striving, we listened.

And God opened a door we never saw coming—one that realigned everything:
our family, our finances, and our future.

What to Do When God Closes a Door You Were Sure He Opened

If you’re in a season of transition, waiting, or wondering why everything just fell apart—here are three things to remember:

1. Peace is a better indicator than pressure

Just because a door is open doesn’t mean it’s yours to walk through. Pay attention to what’s missing—especially peace.

2. God’s “no” is often a setup for His better “yes”
We almost said yes to comfort—and would have missed out on alignment. Redirection isn’t rejection. It’s mercy.

3. Obedience will cost you—but it always leads to more
You may not get instant clarity, but you will get growth. And on the other side? Fruit that lasts.
