We had what we thought was the dream life. A business we loved.
Deep community roots. Family close by. Stability we had prayed and worked for.
And then—we left. Not because we were unhappy. Not because things were falling apart.
But because God opened a door we never expected… and it was in North Carolina.
We didn’t go searching for it. Jonathan didn’t apply for the job. But suddenly, the door flung wide open.
And with it came a question we couldn’t ignore:
Would we trade comfort for calling?
Saying “yes” meant leaving everything familiar behind. And not everyone understood.
Some thought we were crazy. Others voiced their disapproval. And we know it would’ve been easier to stay where things were safe and predictable.
But when you’re chasing God’s voice, comfort can’t be the compass. Obedience has to be.
“When you follow God, people may not understand. But unity in your marriage and clarity from the Lord? That’s the only confirmation you need.”
In this episode, we talk about the tension of choosing obedience when it leads you away from what you once prayed for—and why that doesn’t mean you missed it. It means God’s just getting started.
One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned?
The waiting season is not wasted—it’s preparation.
Because when God starts moving, things happen fast.
And if you’re not ready to respond, you might miss the very door you’ve been praying for.
Looking back, we can see how that long stretch of silence was actually God equipping us for what came next.
And when the time came, we had to act quickly—even though it meant laying down what felt comfortable and secure.
If you’re in a season where nothing is happening… don’t disengage.
Stay ready. Keep preparing. He’s setting you up for movement.
Here are a few things we’ve learned from our journey of obedience:
1. Be okay with people not getting it
Obedience is personal. Everyone won’t understand—and that’s okay. You’re following the One who knows the whole story.
2. Prioritize unity over popularity
We made the decision as a unified couple. We placed God’s voice above anyone else's opinion—and that alignment gave us peace, even in uncertainty.
3. Let go of good to make room for God
Just because something is good doesn’t mean it’s your next. Sometimes God calls us to release one assignment so He can entrust us with another.
4. Dream big, pray bold, and obey anyway
God is not afraid of your big dreams. He’s the one who gave them to you. But often, they’re unlocked through bold steps of faith.
